Written Answers. - Services for People with Disabilities.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

250 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Education and Science the progress on the proposal to establish a centre for deaf studies in Trinity College, Dublin 2; and if he has considered the report on the proposal by the Higher Education Authority which has been submitted to his Department's further education section. [11876/00]

Following its consultation with various interests in the field, the Higher Education Authority has recently submitted a report to my Department on the proposal to establish a centre for deaf studies in Trinity College Dublin. The authority concludes that there is a strong case for the establishment of the centre. I am favourably disposed to such a centre. However, a number of practical issues need further clarification and I have asked my officials to liaise with the authority in this regard.
