Vol. 519 No. 2

Written Answers. - Health Boards.

Bernard Allen

Question:

207 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children the plans, if any, he has to change the title of the country's health boards; and the policy factors behind these considerations. [13582/00]

The health strategy Shaping a Healthier Future indicated that regional health boards would be renamed as "health authorities". While, as of 1 March 2000, the Eastern Health Board was replaced by the Eastern Regional Health Authority, the titles of the other health boards have not been changed. I am having the matter reviewed and, in this review, one of the considerations will be the likely cost of a change of title as against the possible advantages of such a change.
