Vol. 519 No. 3

Written Answers - Medical Cards.

John McGuinness

Question:

167 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Health and Children if his Department will expedite an application for a medical card for a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny in view of the medical circumstances of the case; if his Department will request the health board to re-issue the card. [13871/00]

The determination of eligibility for medical cards is the responsibility of the chief executive officer of the appropriate health board. I, as Minister for Health and Children, do not have a function in the issue of medical cards to individuals. However, as the determination of eligibility of the person concerned rests with the chief executive officer of the South Eastern Health Board, I have asked him to have the matter investigated and to reply directly to the Deputy.
