Vol. 521 No. 4

Written Answers. - Decentralisation Programme.

Mary Coughlan

Question:

134 Ms Coughlan asked the Minister for Finance if he has received a proposal from organisations and public bodies (details supplied) in County Donegal regarding decentralisation to Ballyshannon; if so, if he has considered these proposals; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17535/00]

My Department has, in recent months, received several representations on behalf of and submissions from a number of centres in County Donegal, including Ballyshannon. Some of these have come from the organisations and public bodies referred to by the Deputy in her question. I and my Department are currently engaged in an intensive series of meetings with other Departments, offices and agencies with a view to the Government being in a position to take decisions on a new programme of decentralisation by the end of next month. All proposals made for inclusion in the new programme will be fully considered as part of the Government's deliberations.
