Vol. 522 No. 2

Written Answers. - Irish Emigrant Services.

Michael Ring

Question:

292 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if there is any scheme available to assist Irish people living in England to return home, particularly those who are elderly and on low income. [17948/00]

There is no scheme currently available specifically to house emigrants from Ireland who wish to return home. Many who wish to return home are in a position to provide housing from their own resources. Others, however, may need to apply to a local authority or approved voluntary housing organisation for assistance in meeting their housing needs. Applications or inquiries about eligibility for local authority housing should be directed by the individual to the local authority in whose functional area they wish to reside. Information on accommodation provided by approved voluntary housing organisations may be obtained from the Irish Council for Social Housing, 84 Merrion Square, Dublin 2, which is the representative organisation for the voluntary and non-profit housing sector.
