Vol. 522 No. 2

Written Answers. - Urban Renewal Schemes.

Michael Noonan

Question:

310 Mr. Noonan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the reason a site (details supplied) in County Limerick was not included in the latest urban renewal scheme; if the site will be considered for inclusion; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18295/00]

Designations under the 1999 urban renewal scheme were based on integrated area plans submitted by local authorities and were in line with recommendations made by an independent expert advisory panel on urban renewal which I established to assess all of the plans submitted.

The total of 65 areas proposed by Limerick Corporation for designation was considered by the expert panel as excessive and, as a result, the areas recommended by the local authority for designation were reduced in accordance generally with the corporation's own priorities as outlined in its integrated area plan.

There are no plans to extend those areas designated in Limerick.
