Vol. 522 No. 2

Written Answers. - Foley's Glen.

Dick Spring

Question:

355 Mr. Spring asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands if she will open negotiations with Coillte with a view to acquiring lands known as Foley's Glen, near Tralee, County Kerry, in order to retain them in public ownership, as these lands are surplus to Coillte's requirements. [18279/00]

Dúchas, the heritage service of my Department, has carried out an assessment of the site in question and has concluded that it does not merit designation as a natural heritage area or a special area of conservation. In these circumstances, therefore, my Department has no interest in acquiring the site for conservation purposes.
