Vol. 522 No. 2

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

David Stanton

Question:

450 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of second level schools which are still to receive sanction from his Department with regard to teaching hours and appointments for the next school year; when he expects any such outstanding approvals to be finalised; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18040/00]

All second level school authorities have been notified of their revised approved teacher allocations arising from the initiatives which I recently announced, including the reduction from 19:1 to 18:1 in the pupil teacher ratio for appointment purposes.

Appeals from individual school authorities for concessionary increases in the approved allocations are currently being processed by my Department. The school authorities concerned will be notified of the outcome of their appeal as soon as possible.
