Vol. 522 No. 2

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Austin Currie

Question:

500 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Education and Science if, in view of the new information on enrolment numbers to a school (details supplied) in Dublin 15 and the proposed growth, he will look again at his decision not to allocated a second deputy principal post. [18386/00]

In the vocational sector, the teacher allocation is generally calculated on a VEC scheme basis. The entitlement of individual schools within the scheme to ex-quota deputy principal posts for a particular school year is determined by the enrolment in the school concerned at the end of the preceding September.

On the basis of enrolments at the end of September 1999, the school to which the Deputy refers does not qualify for the allocation of a second ex-quota deputy principal post for the 2000-01 school year.

It is open to the vocational education committee concerned to apply for an increase in the approved teacher allocation for the 2000-01 school year to cater for any projected enrolment increase within the VEC scheme as a whole. If such an application is received, it will be considered by my Department in the normal way.
