77 Mr. Durkan asked the Taoiseach the extent to which the national dairy herd has increased/ decreased in the past five years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17850/00]

The latest figures available for the number of animals in the dairy herd are from the December 1999 agricultural postal survey conducted by the Central Statistics Office.
