Vol. 522 No. 4

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

138 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Health and Children when a person (details supplied) will be admitted for breast reduction surgery at the Mater Hospital; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18969/00]

Responsibility for the provision of services at the Mater Hospital now rests with the Eastern Regional Health Authority. My Department has therefore asked the regional chief executive of the authority to investigate this matter and to reply directly to the Deputy.

Willie Penrose

Question:

139 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Health and Children the steps he will take to have a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath immediately admitted to Tullamore General Hospital to have an immediate hip replacement carried out, in view of the fact the person is suffering a lot of pain; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18970/00]

The provision of medical treatment to eligible persons in County Westmeath is the statutory responsibility of the Midland Health Board in the first instance. My Department has asked the chief executive officer of the board to investigate this case and to reply to the Deputy directly as a matter of urgency.
