Vol. 523 No. 3

Business of Dáil.

I wish to inform the House that the division bells have been fully tested since the House got up last night—

We know, a Cheann Comhairle.

—and are now in good working order. My office has been assured by engineers from the Office of Public Works that the problem experienced yesterday evening with the bells not being heard in certain parts of the Leinster House precinct will not recur.

We heard that before.

Any inconvenience caused to Members is regretted and I thank the Office of Public Works for the work undertaken very late last night.

How about a 'phone bell ringing?

We come to the Order of Business.

I join with you in thanking the Office of Public Works for all its efforts but when will 'phones be provided for people, including Deputies, who have not had 'phones for a week?

Every effort is being made to attend to the outstanding—

As far as I am aware, new connections have not been made since Tuesday.

My information is that every effort is being made to correct that situation.

On that same matter, a Cheann Comhairle.

Deputy Noonan, very briefly. We will not have an open discussion on the matter.

Yesterday evening on Private Members' time, the Minister of State, Deputy Cullen, again assured everybody here that all 'phones had been connected. Can we sort out this breakdown between the people who are doing the work and the Minister responsible for it?

It is he who is having the breakdown.

I have been assured every effort—

The 'phones are not connected.

—is being made to correct the outstanding matters. The Order of Business.
