Vol. 525 No. 5

Written Answers. - Natural Heritage Areas.

Ulick Burke

Question:

227 Mr. U. Burke asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development further to Parliamentary Question No. 136 of 25 October 2000 the reason it is necessary for the applicant to supply special documentation in this case when the information requested is already on file and is similar to that already accepted by his Depart ment in all other cases and another copy has been forwarded to his Department. [25869/00]

As my Department explained to the applicant's planner by letter dated 23 October 2000, there was no confirmation from Dúchas on file to confirm that the area of land that the person referred to had claimed as part of a natural heritage area was in fact in a proposed NHA. She had declared on a previous agri-environmental plan, received in my Department on 26 April 1995, that none of the lands subject of the application were part of a natural heritage area.

My Department must ensure that all criteria to qualify for payments under schemes are fully met. This will necessitate the submission of relevant documentation by participants or their agents where deemed necessary by my Department.
