Vol. 525 No. 5

Written Answers. - Maternity Leave.

Michael Creed

Question:

350 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he has any booklets outlining all entitlements during pregnancy and maternity leave. [25684/00]

An explanatory booklet on employees' entitlements under the Maternity Protection Act, 1994, is available from my Department. An explanatory booklet is also available from the Equality Authority which provides information for the public on entitlements under the Act.

An employer or employee may approach the Health and Safety Authority for detailed guidance on the protection of the employee's health and safety during pregnancy, after childbirth and while breastfeeding. The Health and Safety Authority publishes a booklet entitled Pregnant at Work which provides an overview of the legal requirements in place to ensure the protection of employees who are pregnant, have recently given birth or are breastfeeding.

The maternity benefit payment and the health and safety benefit payment schemes are administered by the Department of Social, Community and Family Affairs. The Department of Social, Community and Family Affairs provides booklets on maternity benefit, SW11, and health and safety benefit, SW21, for the information of the public.

I will arrange for copies of these booklets to be forwarded to the Deputy.
