Vol. 525 No. 5

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Charles Flanagan

Question:

394 Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has received an application from St. Fiach's national school, Killeshin Road, Graiguecullen, County Carlow in respect of a two room extension plus storage area to the school and having regard to the fact that all rooms in the school are fully occupied by main-stream class teachers together with a resource teacher for travellers, a special needs teacher and a visiting teacher and in view of the fact that Graiguecullen is currently undergoing a huge house building programme which will ultimately lead to increased numbers in the school; if he accepts the importance of planning for such an eventuality; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25820/00]

I can confirm that my Department has recently received an application from the management authorities of St. Fiach's national school, Graiguecullen, County Carlow, for a two classroom extension plus storage facilities.

My Department is currently assessing the long-term accommodation requirements of the school and when this assessment has been completed, the matter will be progressed further.

The school authorities will be kept informed of developments.
