Vol. 528 No. 1

Written Answers. - Health Services.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

211 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Health and Children the proposals he has to identify the estimated 8000 undiagnosed diabetics in the south east region; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29351/00]

It is accepted that an overall policy in relation to diabetes mellitus is required at national level. An action group established by the Irish Endocrine Society has examined a range of issues relating to the condition in Ireland and has produced a report. I anticipate being formally presented with a copy of this report in the near future and its recommendations will form the basis for an overall policy on this important public health issue.
