381 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of approved permanent consultant posts as of 1 March 2001; the number of these which are filled; and the position in each health board area by speciality. [8038/01]
The number and regulation of hospital consultants is a matter for Comhairle na nOspidéal. The most recent figures available are for 1 January 2001. There are 1,560 approved consultant posts, of which 1,313 are filled. The number of approved posts in each health board area by specialty is as follows:
