Vol. 535 No. 1

Written Answers - National Monuments.

Liam Aylward

Question:

463 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands if floodlighting will be provided at Jerpoint Abbey, Thomastown, County Kilkenny, as a permanent feature in view of the Abbey's huge tourism attraction; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [12398/01]

The provision of floodlighting at Jerpoint Abbey was included in my Department's proposals under the national development plan. Preliminary archaeological investigation is to be undertaken in the next few weeks and, pending the results of these investigations, it is hoped to have the floodlighting installed by mid-summer.
