Vol. 543 No. 3

Written Answers. - Illegal Dumping.

Michael Creed

Question:

140 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will introduce amending legislation to provide for more substantial fines than the present maximum of £1,500 for illegal dumping in circumstances where local authorities prosecute the case. [27045/01]

I will address this matter in the context of proposed amendments to the Waste Management Act, 1996. At present, the maximum fine which may be provided for in legislation in respect of a summary conviction is 3000, or about £2,360.
