Vol. 546 No. 1

Written Answers. - Services for People with Disabilities.

Michael Noonan

Question:

108 Mr. Noonan asked the Minister for Health and Children the situation regarding a study on the prevalence of ADD and ADHD which was commissioned by his Department; the date on which the study was completed; when the report on the findings will be finalised; when it will be made available to ADD and ADHD support groups; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [31230/01]

The report referred to was completed in June 2001 and was submitted to my Department on 5 July 2001. The findings of the report, together with the first report of the working group on child and adolescent psychiatry, have informed my Department's policy on the provision and further development of services for attention deficit disorder-attention deficit hyperactivity disorder – ADD-ADHD. In this regard, additional funding of approximately £4.7 million, 6 million is being made available in 2002 for child and adolescent psychiatric services. This funding will enhance existing consultant-led teams and provide for a number of additional consultant-led teams throughout the country. A copy of the report will be sent to the ADD-ADHD support groups shortly.
