Vol. 546 No. 3

Written Answers. - Vaccination Programme.

Michael Creed

Question:

178 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Health and Children his views on the findings of the Joint Committee on Health and Children Report on Childhood Immunisation; if he will introduce a no fault compensation scheme for those children who experienced serious adverse reactions to the immunisation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [31380/01]

I welcome the report of the Joint Committee on Health and Children on childhood immunisation and I believe that it forms a comprehensive review of childhood immunisation in Ireland. This detailed report and its recommendations, including the recommendation relating to a national vaccine injury compensation scheme, are currently being examined by my Department. In addition, this report has been brought to the attention of the national immunisation steering committee which is due to report shortly.
