Question:

424 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 182 of 5 December 2001, he will report on the matters discussed at his meeting with a person (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [31827/01]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 423 and 424 together.

In appointing the members of the interim governing authority for the Irish academy for the performing arts my concern is to appoint people with significant knowledge, experience and expertise in the range of disciplines to be incorporated within the academy so as to ensure the development of a world class third level institute for the education and training of performing artists in Ireland.

As the Deputy will be aware, I met with Ms Carmel Naughton following her appointment as chair of the interim governing authority for the academy. During the course of this meeting we discussed a range of issues in relation to the role and functions of the governing authority, the work carried out to date by the planning and steering group, the nodal model developed for the academy, the development of the academy and the prospective membership of the interim governing authority.
