88 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources his plans to introduce a strict catch and release system on all river systems and lakes here; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [31759/01]
I have no plans to introduce a strict catch and release system in angling for salmon or other fish on inland waters. The National Salmon Commission has advised me to introduce a bag limit of one salmon per angler per day during the months of January to May with any additional fish caught being immediately released alive. I will be making the necessary by-law to come into operation on 1 January 2002.
