Vol. 548 No. 5

Written Answers. - Milk Quota.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

137 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if additional milk quota will be granted to a person (details supplied) in County Kerry under the special provision for hardship cases; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5386/02]

The allocation of milk quota from the national reserve is granted on the basis of recommendations from the Milk Quota Appeals Tribunal. The tribunal is a body established to consider and advise on applications for additional quota from individual producers who have suffered severe hardship in the context of the milk quota system.

The person in question has submitted an application for additional quota on the grounds of hardship, and his application has been received in my Department. The tribunal will examine his application in the near future and he will be notified of the outcome in due course.
