Dáil Éireann debate -
Tuesday, 19 Feb 2002

Vol. 548 No. 5

Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to debate the following issue of public importance: the measures required for the Government to bring to justice those responsible for dumping more hospital waste in such places as the Grand Canal in Dublin and determine what wider measures are now needed to address the crisis of the illegal dumping of waste.

Having considered the matter fully, I do not consider it to be one contemplated by Standing Order 31. I cannot grant leave, therefore, to move the motion.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to debate the following urgent matter of public concern: the court decision last Friday and the effect it will have on hepatitis C sufferers and the need for the Minister to clarify or amend the legislation as there are about 1,000 people who do not know where they stand because of this decision.

Having considered the matter fully, I do not consider it to be one contemplated by Standing Order 31. I cannot grant leave, therefore, to move the motion.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to debate the following matter of national importance: the savage and vicious attacks perpetrated on young men in Cork city, the most recent victim being Denis Franklin who is unconscious on a life support machine in the same ward in Cork University Hospital as Christian Scully who has been in a coma for over two weeks as the result of an assault in the same area; and to consider the total failure of the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform to protect the community from street violence.

Having considered the matter fully, I do not consider it to be one contemplated by Standing Order 31. I cannot grant leave, therefore, to move the motion.
