417 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Education and Science when a special needs assistant will be appointed to a school (details supplied) in County Sligo; the reason for the delay in making the appointment; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5357/02]

Minister for Education and Science (Dr. Woods):

I am pleased to inform the Deputy that my Department sanctioned a special needs assistant post at the school referred to by the Deputy on 13 February 2002. Responsibility for recruiting a suitable person to fill this post rests with the school authorities.
