145 Mr. D. Carey asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the number of farmers in County Clare who participated in the REP scheme 1; the number who have completed participation in REP scheme 1 and have applied for REP scheme 2; the number who received penalties under REP scheme 1; the amount of money involved; and the number who appealed successfully the penalties applied. [6994/02]

The number of active participants in REPS 1 in County Clare at the end of 2000 when the new REPS 2 was launched was 2,501. The number of participants who have completed participation in REPS 1 and have applied to join REPS 2 is 618. The number of participants who received penalties under REPS 1 since 1994 was 907 and of these, 232 made successful appeals. The amount of the penalties imposed was €2,092,026.32.
