Vol. 550 No. 2

Written Answers. - Departmental Libraries.

Seán Haughey

Question:

123 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if her Department has a library or if another library comes under the aegis of her Department; the way in which staff are recruited to such libraries; if there are vacancies at the present time; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [7639/02]

The Department of Public Enterprise has three libraries. One is located in the core Department in 44 Kildare Street. The Geological Survey of Ireland and Met Éireann also have their own libraries. Met Éireann currently has a full-time permanent librarian and a temporary assistant librarian. The librarian was recruited by the Civil Service Commission. The temporary assistant librarian was recruited on a two year temporary contract.

The staff in the libraries of the core Department and GSI are staff officers and executive officers who are assigned to that area and given appropriate training. There are two executive officers worksharing in the core Department's library and one staff officer in the GSI's library. There are no vacancies in any of our libraries at present.
