Vol. 550 No. 2

Written Answers. - Flood Relief.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

210 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance the progress achieved in relation to proposals to prevent a reoccurrence of the flooding in the environs of Maynooth, Leixlip, Celbridge, Naas, Kilcock, Kill, Straffan and Clane, County Kildare in November 2001; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7527/02]

The Office of Public Works and representatives of Kildare County Council met on three occasions during February to discuss reports received from the council in relation to flooding from the Meadowbrook, Lyreen and Morrell rivers. The county council has proposed a number of minor works that might be undertaken immediately to alleviate flooding. The council's consultants have been asked to examine these works to ensure that they will not have any adverse impacts elsewhere. The views of the consultants are now awaited.

Willie Penrose

Question:

211 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Finance if a channel which is in need of maintenance is attended to as indicated in previous correspondence (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7631/02]

Maintenance works on most of the channel in question were carried out in September 2001. Work on part of the channel was deferred at the request of one of the landowners. This work has now been rescheduled for April 2002.
