Vol. 550 No. 2

Written Answers. - Disabled Drivers.

Jim Mitchell

Question:

213 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Finance the steps he intends to take to make it easier for disabled drivers to get a reduction in vehicle registration tax; the situation in this regard; his proposals to introduce administrative changes; and the timetable thereof. [7667/02]

As the Deputy is aware, the disabled drivers' and disabled passengers' (tax concessions) scheme is under review by an inter-departmental review group which is being chaired by an official from the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform. I understand that this work is at an advanced stage. Any proposals – whether to widen the scope of the scheme or otherwise – which may emanate from the review group will receive full consideration. Until such time, no amendments to the scheme will be considered.
