I wish to take Questions Nos. 522, 524, 526 and 527 together.

The sports capital programme for 2002 was advertised on 25 and 26 November 2001 with a closing date of 4 January 2002 for the receipt of completed applications. A total of forty five applications were received from County Kildare and the names and the locations of these applications, as provided by the applicants on their application forms, are shown on the following tabular statement. Under the national lottery-funded programme, financial assistance is available to voluntary and community organisations including sports clubs and to national governing bodies of sport for the provision of sporting and recreational facilities. The programme is advertised annually and applications for funding from clubs-organisations have to be made on an individual basis. All applications received before the deadline for the 2002 programme are currently being evaluated against the the programme's assessment criteria, which are outlined in its guidelines, terms and conditions. I intend to announce the grant allocations for the programme as soon as possible after the assessment process has been completed.

Question:

523 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if allocations from the proceeds of the national lottery to date will be carried forward into 2003 in the event that various sporting or recreational groups are unable to draw down funds in 2002; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7898/02]

Under the sports capital programme, which is administered by my Department, in the case of projects funded under the 2001 programme, the grantees have until 27 September 2002 to submit all of the relevant documentation and a substantial amount of the work completed to facilitate the draw down of the grants. My Department retains the right to withdraw the grants after 27 September 2002 if these conditions are not met by the grantees. The sports capital programme for 2002 was advertised on 25 and 26 November 2001 with a closing date of 4 January, 2002 for the receipt of completed applications. In excess of 1,300 applications were received before the closing date and these are currently being evaluated against the programme's assessment criteria, which are outlined in the guidelines, terms and conditions of the programme. I intend to announce the grant allocations for the programme as soon as possible after the assessment process has been completed. Under a ‘sunset clause' provision, it is the responsibility of grantees to ensure that the project commences within six months of the date of grant allocation and that a substantial amount of work is completed within twelve months. Failure to do so may result in the grant being withdrawn.
