Tom Hayes

Question:

160 Mr. T. Hayes asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the person who has responsibility for setting up the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland; and when the present body was established. [12465/02]

The Broadcasting Act, 2001 provided, inter alia, for the establishment of the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland which replaced the Independent Radio and Television Commission. I authorised the commencement of the Broadcasting Act, 2001, including the provisions relating to the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland, on 1 September 2001.
