Question:

621 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of burglaries and associated crime which was reported in the weekend from Friday, 31 May 2002, to Monday, 3 June 2002, and from Friday, 7 June 2002, to Monday, 10 June 2002, to a Garda station (details supplied) in County Donegal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13702/02]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that two burglaries were reported in the weekend from Friday, 31 May 2002, to Monday, 3 June 2002. I understand that two persons were arrested in connection with the burglaries and that property was recovered by the Gardaí. An alleged larceny of petrol from a filling station was also reported on the same weekend, which is currently under investigation. I am also informed that no burglaries were reported on the weekend from 7 June 2002, to 10 June 2002. I understand that one person was arrested in connection with alleged criminal damage and public order offences, and that two persons were arrested and charged in connection with an alleged attempt to pass counterfeit sterling notes. The gardaí are also investigating the alleged larceny of diesel, an attempt to pass counterfeit notes, dangerous driving and assault.
