Question:

357 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will investigate and have resolved the repatriation application for a person (details supplied) in Panama now that the person's appeal has been dealt with, in view of the health condition of the person and the urgent need for the repatriation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I propose to take Questions Nos. 338 and 357 together.

I can inform the Deputy that a letter will issue shortly from my Department requesting the authorities in Panama to commence processing the transfer application to which the Deputy has referred in his questions. This letter will be sent to the British Embassy in Panama who have agreed to represent the Irish authorities in the matter. Upon receipt of a formal application from the authorities in Panama, officials of my Department will make every effort to process this application as quickly as possible.
