Question:390 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social and Family Affairs her plans to increase the rate of payment under the student summer job scheme; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [14530/02]
Written Answers. - Summer Jobs Scheme.
The student summer jobs scheme has been advertised as usual this year and the closing date for applications is 28 June 2002. The hourly rate for the scheme is €3.85. To date, 6,099 students have applied to participate in the scheme in 2002. A question has been raised about the applicability of the minimum wage legislation to the scheme and the matter is being reviewed by my Department and by the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment. I will notify the Deputy when the matter has been clarified.
