Vol. 553 No. 5

Written Answers. - Work Permits.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

143 Mr. Durkan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if she will approve work permits for persons (details supplied) in County Kildare in view of the fact that they have guaranteed employment, have an employer who is anxious they work here and that they have worked in the country for two years; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [14601/02]

I am informed by the work permits section that these two individuals have been working in this country for the last two years. In the case of the first named employee the work permit expired on 8 April 2002 and in the case of the second, his permit is due to expire on 12 July 2002.

There is no record of any outstanding work permit application in respect of the first named individual. In relation to the second named person, an invalid work permit application was refused on 21 March 2002. My Department will consider this case further on receipt of a valid work permit application.
