Vol. 558 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Transport.

John McGuinness

Question:

229 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will request a reduction in the cost of school transport in the case of a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny; if he will reconsider the request to reroute the school bus to have this person included; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23216/02]

The pupil referred to by the Deputy resides 1.4 miles from the bus route to his appropriate school and is considered to have a service within guidelines. In the circumstances it is not appropriate for my Department to incur additional cost in extending the existing service. The payment in question is the economic cost of extending the service to cater for the pupil. It is not open to my Department to reduce this cost.
