Vol. 558 No. 3

Written Answers. - Driving Licences.

David Stanton

Question:

158 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Transport the situation with regard to provisional licence holders regarding the need to be accompanied by a full driving licence holder; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24120/02]

Currently provisional licence holders other than drivers of motorcycles and work vehicles must be accompanied by a qualified driver for that category of vehicle at all times when driving in a public place. The only exception to this requirement are holders of second provisional licences for cars who are not required to be accompanied by a qualified driver during the period of that licence. This exception is under review.
