Question:203 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Education and Science if those special needs assistants who have applied to join a trade union can have their trade union subscriptions deducted from source. [26429/02]

My Department is not in a position to offer the facility in question to special needs assistants at this stage. The possibility of deducting trade union subscriptions at source will be kept under review in the light of resources available to operate the special needs assistants payroll.
