Vol. 560 No. 4

Written Answers. - Security of the Elderly.

Tony Gregory

Question:

298 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs when the security for the elderly group will again be grant-aided; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2831/03]

Under the 2002 scheme of community support for older people, various regional offices of the Department of Social and Family Affairs, who administered the scheme on behalf of my Department in 2002, received applications from the organisation referred to by the Deputy.

It is a requirement of the scheme that voluntary or community based groups seeking funding must satisfy the defined eligibility criteria of the scheme, comply with Government tax clearance procedures and provide satisfactory accounts in respect of previously paid grants.

My Department is currently in negotiations with the organisation regarding outstanding documentation in respect of previously paid grants under the scheme. When this issue has been resolved, consideration will then be given to further grant aiding the organisation.
