Vol. 560 No. 5

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Michael Ring

Question:

73 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the stage an application for REP scheme payment by a person (details supplied) in County Mayo is at according to the protocol on direct payments to farmers; when his Department will process this application; and when this person can expect a payment. [3078/03]

The protocol on direct payments to farmers allows ten weeks for the processing of a valid annual application to the point where it is scheduled for payment. One further month is allowed for the issue of the payment. The application in question is still at the initial processing stage and is within the target for that stage.

Paul McGrath

Question:

74 Mr. P. McGrath asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will accept applications from farmers for special beef premiums which arrived in his Department in early January 2003 and were obviously delayed in transit. [3079/03]

The application period for the 2002 special beef premium scheme was from 1 January to 31 December 2002. The terms and conditions of the scheme state that any 2002 applications received after that date will not be processed and will be returned to the applicant. In view of the Christmas holiday period, special arrangements were made by my Department to arrange for the acceptance of special beef premium application forms at local offices as well as at the special beef premium unit in Portlaoise on all working days over the holiday period.

Notwithstanding these special arrangements, the special beef premium unit is examining all applications received in the special beef premium unit in January 2003 to determine the date of posting. In instances where individual farmers wish to have their applications considered under the 2002 scheme and have relevant supporting documentation, i.e. a certificate of posting, confirming that an application was posted in good time, the Department will review the date of receipt of the application.
