Vol. 561 No. 2

Written Answers. - Job Creation.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

114 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs his views on the working group on the creation of employment in the Gaeltacht; if it is intended to implement the recommendations made by the group; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3666/03]

As I have already stated publicly, I welcome the report produced by the working group on the creation of employment in the Gaeltacht and I endorse the general approach that has been taken.

Arising from the report Údarás na Gaeltachta has already put together an action plan to tackle the significant unemployment problem in the North west Donegal Gaeltacht and has taken an important step in appointing a senior officer to its regional office in Gweedore to oversee implementation of this plan.

Furthermore, my Department and the Údarás are currently examining all of the report's other recommendations to determine how they can be most effectively implemented.
