Vol. 561 No. 3

Written Answers. - School Curriculum.

David Stanton

Question:

133 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of full and part time facilitators appointed in the various disciplines in the academic year 2002-03 with reference to the primary curriculum support group; the situation with regard to the implementation of the physical education section; his plans to recruit facilitators in this area; the numbers involved; the dates when he might advertise for same; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4236/03]

A total of 104 full-time training and support personnel were appointed to the various disciplines of the primary curriculum support programme in the academic year 2002-03. This figure comprises: Gaeilge, 19; social, personal and health education, 21; science, 24; maths, 13; English, 11; visual arts, 8; learning support, 8. While an advance selection of 17 trainers in physical education has been made, no decisions have as yet been taken in regard to the delivery of the support programme in this subject. I hope to be in a position to decide on the details of the 2003-04 programme in the near future.
