Vol. 561 No. 4

Written Answers. - Noise Pollution.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

435 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the provisions in place to deal with alarms ringing for lengthy periods in domestic or business premises to the distress of nearby residents; the recourse available to deal with such a problem; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4299/03]

Legislative provisions to prevent or limit noise are provided for in sections 106 to 108, inclusive, of the Environmental Protection Agency Act 1992 and the Environmental Protection Agency Act 1992 (Noise) Regulations 1994.

I refer the Deputy to my replies to Questions Nos. 910 of 29 January 2003 and 157 of 10 October 2002 in relation to noise from alarms and arrangements in place to address it.
