Question:189 Mr. S. Power asked the Minister for Defence if he will report on the progress made in relation to over-holders; and his plans to provide additional accommodation. [7504/03]
Written Answers - Defence Forces Property.
The Department is continuing to examine all options, including affordable housing and voluntary and co-operative housing schemes, regarding the rehousing of those over-holders who would in the normal way be eligible for local authority housing. Meetings have been held between officials of the Department and the over-holders as well as with officials of Kildare County Council. In cases where houses have been offered for sale to over-holders, the Department has requested the co-operation of Kildare County Council in ensuring that mortgages are made available to eligible applicants. The Department will be in further contact with the over-holders in due course.
