Vol. 566 No. 4

Written Answers. - Waste Management.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

244 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the ratio of people per bring centre here for each category of material collected. [13121/03]

My Department estimates that there are around 1,450 bring centres in place throughout the country. This indicates a density of one facility for every 2,700 head of population. A further 877 bring banks are planned for the period 2003-04. However, a breakdown by category of material collected is not available to my Department. In addition there are around 34 civic amenity sites currently operated by local authorities.
