159 Ms Enright asked the Minister for Health and Children his plans for the provision of maternity services at Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe, County Galway; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14134/03]

The provision of maternity services at Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe is a matter for the Western Health Board. My Department has asked the chief executive officer of the board to investigate the position and to reply directly to the Deputy.

160 Ms Enright asked the Minister for Health and Children his plans in relation to the provision of maternity services at Portlaoise General Hospital, Portlaoise, County Laois; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14135/03]

Responsibility for the provision of maternity services at the Midland Regional Hospital in Portlaoise rests with the Midland Health Board. Therefore, my Department has asked the chief executive officer of the board to investigate the position in relation to the issue raised and to reply directly to the Deputy.
