Vol. 567 No. 3

Written Answers. - Visa Applications.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

171 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will review the decision to disallow a visa for a person (details supplied) to join their parents; the reason such an application was turned down on the terse and unexplained grounds of documentation supplied; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14076/03]

The visa application in question refers to a dependant of persons who have been granted permission to remain in the State based on parentage of an Irish-born child. These type of visa applications are not currently being processed by my Department.

The Government has yet to determine the general policy to be adopted in respect of Irish born child applications and related issues such as the type of applications referred to by the Deputy. It should be noted that my Department no longer accepts separate applications to reside in the State purely on the basis of the birth of an Irish-born child.
