Written Answers. - Disabled Drivers.

Bernard Allen

Question:

216 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Finance if he proposes to extend the abatement on car tax, vehicle registration tax and VAT on vehicles, which is available to those with physical disabilities, to those who have mental disabilities and whose movements are handicapped due to their mental disability. [16725/03]

An interdepartmental review group chaired by an official from the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform has looked at the disabled drivers' and disabled passengers' (tax concessions) scheme. I have received its report and it is being considered. Any recommendations contained in this report in relation to the medical criteria and other conditions of the scheme will receive full consideration.
