Vol. 569 No. 3

Written Answers. - Sports Funding.

Paddy McHugh

Question:

290 Mr. McHugh asked the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism if a sports capital grant 2003 will be awarded to Dunmore Demesne golf club; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17680/03]

The national lottery-funded sports capital programme, which is administered by my Department, allocates funding to sporting and community organisations at local, regional and national level throughout the country. The programme is advertised on an annual basis. The 2003 sports capital programme was advertised in the national newspapers on 23 and 24 March 2003. The closing date for receipt of applications was 25 April. In excess of 1,300 applications were received before the closing date, including one from the organisation in question. All applications are currently being evaluated against the programme's assessment criteria, which are outlined in the guidelines, terms and conditions of the programme. I intend to announce the grant allocations for the programme as soon as possible after the assessment process has been completed.

Fergus O'Dowd

Question:

291 Mr. O'Dowd asked the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism if funding will be given by his Department in 2003 to the Drogheda swimming pool project which is being managed by Drogheda Borough Council; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17728/03]

As I indicated in my reply of 7 May last to the Deputy, in April 2003 I approved the revised preliminary report submitted by Drogheda Borough Council for a replacement swimming pool in Drogheda. This approval will allow the council to prepare contract documents for the work proposed. It is a matter for Drogheda Borough Council to progress this matter and on receipt of the contract documentation, the proposal will be considered further by my Department.
